Designed by RKD, the recently completed 5,800 sq. m fit-out of Horizon Therapeutics Global Headquarters has achieved LEED GOLD for Interior Design and Construction (ID+C) with a score of 78 points.
Situated overlooking Dublin’s St. Stephen’s Green, the interior design makes reference to Horizon’s innovative scientific process, while the building’s prime location and historical context inspired the use of local and natural materials and biophilia throughout the fit-out.
With a focus on materiality and healthy indoor environments, materials with verified Environmental Product Declarations (EPD’s), material ingredient sourcing, and low emissions were specified where appropriate. Biophilic elements include spiral stairs, hanging baskets, planters, naturally finished materials, and visual connections with St. Stephen’s Green.
Increased ventilation rates provided by efficient AHU units provide clean filtered air to occupants. A comprehensive indoor air quality plan during the fit-out minimised indoor pollution.
Providing for future flexibility in space organisation, open and removeable ceilings and raised floors allow for readily accessible services. An advanced lighting control system allows for reconfiguring lighting zones without rewiring. Reduced lamp power and daylight harvesting automatically adjusts electric light use providing appropriate lighting levels for occupants.
Combined with water-conserving sanitaryware and roof-mounted photovoltaic panels, RKD’s fit-out provides a healthy, adaptable, energy- and water-efficient workplace environment that sustainably supports Horizon’s global headquarters staff on their mission of going to incredible lengths to improve patients’ lives.
Congratulations to the client and to the design and contracting teams in achieving LEED GOLD ID+C certification.
